SgtMaj Nathaniel Dreyer was born on 7 April 1982 in Albuquerque, NM. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps’ delayed entry program 5 June 1999 in San Antonio, TX, and entered recruit training 5 June 2000. He graduated as the Company Honor man, Hotel Company, 2nd RTBN on 1 September 2000, and was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal.
After completing recruit training, he reported to Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, California, where he graduated as and obtained the MOS 0311.
9 November 2000, he reported to Company G, 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, Camp Pendleton, California where he served as point man, saw gunner, team leader, and squad leader. During his assignment, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the 31st MEU. He also deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I, and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal for meritorious achievements during the assault of the Rumaylah Oil Fields and the battle of At’ Tarmiyah.
In January 2005, he was assigned to Marine Combat Instructor Duty, Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton California where he served as a Squad Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, Primary Instructor and Section Leader. On 2 January 2006, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and upon successful completion of his tour as a Marine Combat Instructor he awarded the Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal.
In March 2008 he was assigned to Company K, 3d Battalion 1st Marines, where he a served as platoon sergeant, platoon commander, company gunny, and joint terminal attack controller. During his assignment, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the 31st MEU. He also deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device for heroic achievements supporting OEF and was promoted to GySgt 01 Jan 2011.
In March 2011 he was assigned to Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, where he served as the Battalion Operations Chief, Body Composition Program Manager, Suicide Prevention Program Officer and Assistant Antiterrorism Officer. Upon his detachment, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal.
14 March 2013, he was assigned to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, where he served as the Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant. During his assignment, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the unit deployment program and was selected and frocked to the rank of 1stSgt 5 February 2014.
9 April 2014, he was assigned to 2d Intelligence Battalion, II MHG where he served as Company 1stSgt, Golf Company, Intelligence Operations Company, Headquarters and Service Company, and Battalion Sergeant Major. Upon his detachment, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal.
In April 2017 he was assigned to 2d Marine Raider Support Battalion, MARSOC, where he served as Headquarters and Service Company 1stSgt from 16 April 2017 to 7 June 2018. He was then assigned to and deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve as the task force 1stSgt, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force- Iraq 19.1, from 8 June 2018 to 13 June 2019. Upon Completion of his tour at MARSOC, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
22 July 2019, SgtMaj Dreyer was assigned to MALS-29, MAG-29, 2d MAW where he served as the Squadron SgtMaj.
8 October 2020, SgtMaj Dreyer was assigned to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, where he currently serves as the Battalion SgtMaj.
SgtMaj Dreyer’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with V and 3 gold stars in lieu of 4th award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon with gold star in lieu of second award, and Good Conduct Medal with silver star in lieu of 6th award.
