Colonel John H. Rochford
Commanding Officer, 8th Marine Regiment

Colonel Rochford was commissioned from the United States Naval Academy in 1994. His first assignment was with First Battalion, Fourth Marines where he served as a Platoon Commander, and a Company Executive Officer. During this time, he deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special operations Capable). In June 1997 he reported to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Where he served as a Series Commander, Company Commander, and the Company Commander for Field Training Company, Weapon’s and Field Training Battalion. After completing Amphibious Warfare School in 2001, he reported to Second Battalion, Fourth Marines, where he served as a Company Commander and deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable). In July 2003 he assumed command of Marine Corps Security Force Company, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In 2005 he reported to the Foreign Military Training Unit in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he assumed duty as a Team Leader. While serving there he was part of that unit’s activation as well as the activation of Marine Forces, Special Operations Command. As a Team Leader he conducted multiple deployments to Africa, and deployed with his Team to Afghanistan. Colonel Rochford reported to Headquarters, United States Special Operations Command in July 2009. While at the Headquarters he deployed to Afghanistan. In June 2011 Colonel Rochford assumed duties as the Inspector-Instructor for Anti-Terrorism Battalion. He reported to the U.S. Army War College in 2013. Upon graduation in 2014 he reported to Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command. He served as the Training and Education Officer, Marine Raider Regiment Executive Officer, and deployed to Iraq as the Deputy Commander for Special Operation Joint Task Force Iraq. This was followed by assignment as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations for Marine Special Operations Command.

In April of 2018 Colonel Rochford assumed duties as the Officer- In-Charge for Team Bravo for Task Force Southwest where he deployed to Afghanistan before assuming his current duties. Colonel Rochford is married and has two children, His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (one Gold Star), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two Oak Leafs), Meritorious Service Medal (one Gold Star), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
