Commanding Officer, 12th Littoral Anti-Air Battalion
Lieutenant Colonel Scott W. Caton

Lieutenant Colonel Scott "SDK" Caton is the Commanding Officer of the 12th Littoral Anti Air Battalion. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves in 2001 and graduated from the University of Maine and commissioned in 2008.


Lieutenant Colonel Caton's Fleet Marine Force assignments include infantry rifleman with 1st Battalion 25th Marine Regiment (2002-2008); Tactical Air Director, Helicopter Director, Air Support Element (ASE) Officer-In-Charge (OIC), Senior Air Director, and Communications and Electronics Company Executive Officer with Marine Air Support Squadron 1 (2009-2012); Air Support Section Commander, Air Support Liaison Team OIC, ASE OIC, and Direct Air Support Center (DASC) OIC with Marine Air Support Squadron 6 (2016-2018), Wing Air Command and Control Officer / Plans Officer with 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (2020-2021), Operations Officer and Executive Officer with Marine Air Support Squadron 2 (2021-2023), and G-9 Force Design / Capabilities Integration Officer and Deputy G-9 with III Marine Expeditionary Force (2023-2024).


Lieutenant Colonel Caton has participated in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan and the Philippines and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Lieutenant Colonel Caton's staff assignments include serving as the DASC Division Head with Marine Air Command and Control Squadron—Experimental Operational Development Team (2013-2015) and Marine Air Command and Control System Transformation Special Project Officer with Capabilities Development Directorate, Deputy Commandant Combat Development and Integration (2019).


Lieutenant Colonel Caton is a 2013 graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School and a 2019 distinguished Marine Corps Command and Staff College (MCCSC) graduate in Quantico, Virginia. Major Caton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Maine, a Master of Science degree in Project Management from George Washington University, and a Master in Military Studies (MMS) and a graduate certificate in future concept development from the Marine Corps University. Other schools include the Joint Firepower Course, Fire Support Coordination Course, Joint Air Operations Command and Control Course, and the Tomahawk Land Attack Missile Tactical Commanders Course. Lieutenant Colonel Caton is a certified Project Management Professional.


Lieutenant Colonel Caton's decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with a Gold Star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Two Gold Stars, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He is also the 2022 Robert F. Gibson Marine Corps Aviation Command and Control Officer of the Year winner.
