Biography

Colonel John Armellino
Commanding Officer, 8th Marine Regiment

 

Colonel John Armellino is a native of Newark, New Jersey and was commissioned a second lieutenant on August 16, 1991.    

 

Colonel Armellino has held positions of command from lieutenant to lieutenant colonel that include Infantry Platoon Commander, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, Scout Sniper Platoon Commander, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, Company Commander, 3d Battalion, 4th Marines, and Battalion Commander, Advanced Infantry Training Battalion-East.

 

Colonel Armellino’s staff assignments include tours as the Adjutant, Marine Corps Communications and Electronics School, Executive Officer, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines, Executive Officer, Anti-Terrorism Battalion, Future Operations Officer, Training and Education Command, Current Operations Officer, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Chief of Staff, 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade and Futures Integration Officer, Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory/Futures Directorate.

 

Colonel Armellino deployed with the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operations Provide Promise and Continue Hope.  His other operational deployments include Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Damayan, Operation Sahayogi Haat, and the Unit Deployment Program in support of Marine Forces Pacific.  

 

Colonel Armellino holds a BS in Management from Rutgers University.  He also received an MBA from National University, an MMS from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College as well as an MSS from the Marine Corps War College.  His other formal military education includes The Basic School, Infantry Officer’s Course, Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School, and the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course.

 

Colonel Armellino’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (with Gold Star in lieu of second award), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (with Gold Star in lieu of third award), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Combat Distinguishing Device and Gold Star in lieu of second award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with Gold Star in lieu of second award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
