U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Stephen Liszewski, left, places the Honorable Order of St. Barbara around the neck of Sgt. Maj. Ismael Bamba, middle, during the St. Barbara’s Day ceremony on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, April 11, 2024. The St. Barbara’s day celebration is commemorated across artillery regiments in the armed forces to honor St. Barbara, the patron saint of artillerymen. The Honorable Order of Saint Barbara is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and moral character, displayed an outstanding degree of professional competence and served the Artillery with selflessness. Liszewski, a native of Maryland, is the commanding general of Marine Corps Installation Pacific.
