Biography
Lieutenant Colonel Neil R. Berry
Commanding Officer, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment

                LtCol Berry enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1996 and upon completion of recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, SC, MCT, and MOS School was assigned to Co C 4th Combat Engineer BN, 4th Marine Division. LtCol Berry graduated from Virginia Tech in 2000 and was commissioned in April 2001.

            LtCol Berry attended The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course and was assigned to 2d Battalion, 3rd Marines. During this time he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander, 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander, and Weapons Company Executive Officer. He deployed in support of OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH and ENDURING FREEDOM in the Persian Gulf, with the 31st MEU in the Pacific Region, and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan.

            LtCol Berry reported to The Basic School in late 2005 where he served as a Primary Instructor for Squad Tactics, Staff Platoon Commander, and as an instructor at the Infantry Officer Course. During this tour he completed Expeditionary Warfare School.

            In April of 2008, LtCol Berry was assigned to 2d Battalion, 6th Marines, and served as the Commanding Officer for Company E, MECH Company, for the 26th MEU and the Commander of Troops for the USS Carter Hall (LSD-50). He deployed with the 26th MEU in support of operations and exercises in the Persian Gulf, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. Upon return from deployment LtCol Berry was assigned as the Commanding Officer of Weapons Company, and deployed in 2010 to Marjah, Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.

            In 2011, LtCol Berry reported to MAGTF-TC and served as the Infantry Battalion Team West AOIC and OIC with Tactical Training Exercise Control Group (TTECG). During this time LtCol Berry completed the Marine Corps Command and Staff Education Program, and served as an Adjunct Faculty Instructor for Expeditionary Warfare School CDET in Twentynine Palms, CA.

            In January 2014, LtCol Berry reported to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines and served as the Operations Officer. As the Operations Officer he completed his certification as an Operations and Tactics Instructor (OTI), planned and participated in multiple service level training events and exercises, and deployed to Okinawa in support of operations and exercises in the region. In 2016 LtCol Berry was assigned duties as the Operations Officer 3d Marine Regiment and participated in multiple service level training exercises and events in the Pacific Region. Additionally, LtCol Berry received a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership from Liberty University in May of 2018.  LtCol Berry reported to 6th Marine Regiment in June 2018, and served as the Executive Officer

LtCol Berry assumed the duties of Commanding Officer 3d Battalion, 8th Marines on August 24, 2018.
